Ingredients

2 oz Vodka
1/2 oz Coffee liqueur
1/4 oz Sugar syrup 'rich' (2:1)
1 1/2 oz Espresso coffee (hot)

How to make

Serve in a medical cup or old-fashioned glass

Method

  1. 1 Select and pre-chill a MEDICAL CUP OR OLD-FASHIONED GLASS.
  2. 2 Prepare garnish of coffee beans.
  3. 3 SHAKE all ingredients with ice.
  4. 4 STRAIN into ice-filled glass.

History

A potent stimulant that inspired many Espresso Martinis.

This drink is essentially an Espresso Martini served over ice. Bartender Dick Bradsell created it by adapting his coffee Martini. He was prompted to do this when Damien Hirst provided him with a list of 20 cocktail names for the menu at Hirst's new Pharmacy restaurant in Notting Hill. Dick Bradsell was the bar manager there, and artwork by Damien Hirst was displayed in the restaurant. The location, on Notting Hill Gate, is now a Waitrose store.
