History

Fruity and edging towards sweet, tastes better than the name might suggest.

Cranberry juice rose in popularity in the mid-to-late 1980s. During this time, the Fuzzy Navel, made with peach schnapps and orange juice, and the Hairy Navel, which included vodka in addition to peach schnapps and orange juice, were two of the most popular cocktails of the decade. It is therefore unsurprising that cranberry juice, or perhaps cranberry schnapps, was added to each of these drinks, creating what are known as "pierced" versions. A Pierced Fuzzy Navel contains no vodka, while a Pierced Hairy Navel does. The question arises: why opt for a simple Fuzzy Navel when a more complex, "hairy" version is available?
