History
Essentially a G&T with an extra pop of flavour, this has broader appeal than the original Pink Gin.
The first Pink Gin sampled by the author, made with generous dashes of bitters, proved difficult to appreciate. In 2002, tonic water, which also contains quinine from cinchona bark, was added. This can also be seen as adding dashes of bitters to a G&T. While not the first to add Angostura Bitters to a G&T, no earlier reference to a "Pink Gin & Tonic" has been found. The drink's popularity grew, with the gin graze, soda boom, and ready-to-drink market leading to many pre-mixed Pink G&Ts and specialized tonic waters. Consequently, in 2021, classic 'Indian' tonic water was replaced with an aromatic tonic, and the bitters dose was reduced.
