History

The apple brandy leads, with aromatised wine following.

This cocktail was first conceived by Harry Craddock on February 28, 1922. It was created to honor the wedding of H.R.H. Princess Mary. Craddock included it in his 1930 publication, The Savoy Cocktail Book, where he specified that the drink should be shaken, not stirred. PRINCESS MARY'S PRIDE COCKTAIL. ¼ French Vermouth. ¼ Dubonnet. ½ Calvados. Shake well and strain into cocktail glass. Harry Craddock developed this drink on February 28, 1922, for the wedding festivities of H.R.H. Princess Mary. Mary, Princess Royal and Countess of Harewood (born April 25, 1897 – died March 28, 1965), was the sole daughter of King George V and Queen Mary. She was also the sister of King Edward VIII and King George VI, and the aunt of Queen Elizabeth II, the reigning British monarch. Her marriage to Henry Lascelles, Viscount Lascelles (who later became the 6th Earl of Harewood), took place in 1922, and she received the title of Princess Royal in 1932.
