1 1/2 oz Añejo tequila
1/2 oz Mezcal
1/2 oz Maraschino liqueur
1/6 oz Agave syrup
8 drop Lavender bitters
1/3 oz Chilled water

How to make

Serve in a coupe glass

  1. 1 Select and pre-chill a COUPE GLASS.
  2. 2 Prepare garnish of lime zest twist.

  1. 3 STIR all ingredients with ice.
  2. 4 FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.

Garnish

  1. 5 Express lime zest twist over the cocktail and use as garnish.

History

Tequila-based, with complex mezcal smokiness, rich maraschino cherry and floral lavender bitters. A cocktail that likes dilution, so perhaps serve on the rocks.

Neil Young's 1969 song, "Cowgirl In The Sand," inspired the name. Accounts differ on the song's subject matter, with some suggesting it's about "unrequited love for a beautiful free-spirited woman," while others believe it refers to a promiscuous woman, or even a Spanish beach. The writer initially recalled the lyrics mentioning "Sandy the showgirl," but discovered this was not the case upon further review.
