History
An after-dinner refresher suited for St. Patrick's Day.
This cocktail is adapted from a recipe in Hugo R. Ensslin's 1917 publication, Recipes for Mixed Drinks (2nd Edition). The SHAMROCK COCKTAIL consists of ½ Irish Whiskey, ½ French Vermouth, 3 dashes Chartreuse (green), and 3 dashes Crème de Menthe. It is stirred well with cracked ice, strained, and served with an olive in the glass. The Shamrock also appears in Harry Craddock's 1930 book, The Savoy Cocktail Book, with a similar preparation: SHAMROCK COCKTAIL. 3 Dashes Green Crème de Menthe, 3 Dashes Green Chartreuse, ½ French Vermouth, ½ Irish Whisky. Shake well and strain into cocktail glass.
