History
A splash of lemon juice has been added to the usual recipe; it's still not exciting.
This drink is named for Shirley Temple, a child film star of the 1930s who retired from acting in 1950 at age 22, having appeared in 42 films. She made her film debut in 1931 at the age of three. Two years later, her performance in "Bright Eyes," a film created to showcase her considerable talents, brought her international acclaim. According to cocktail lore, Shirley Temple expressed disappointment at being overlooked at Hollywood parties where adults enjoyed sophisticated drinks. In response, a bartender at Chasen's Restaurant in Beverly Hills, a venue frequently hosting Academy Awards parties, devised this non-alcoholic cocktail in her honor. Following her second marriage, Shirley Temple Black became recognized for her diplomatic career, serving as the U.S. ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia.
