Flavour profile
History
With the right sloe gin and champagne, this citrusy berry cocktail is just on the dry/tart side of balanced (add sugar or choose sloe gin according to taste). Made with soda instead of sparkling wine, it is a different but still tasty cocktail. Egg white is not needed and detracts from the drink.
"Its haunting pink color and fruity opulence are topped with a handsome collar of natural foam which, if the sloe gin be of first quality, is gladsome aplenty." This quote about the Sloe Gin Fizz by Lawton Mackall appeared in the August 1941 issue of Esquire, and David Wondrich is credited with uncovering it.
