1/2 oz Calvados apple brandy
1/6 oz Grenadine syrup

Method

  1. 1 Select and pre-chill a NICK & NORA GLASS.
  2. 2 Prepare garnish of float (dehydrated) apple slice.
  3. 3 STIR all ingredients with ice.
  4. 4 FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.

This beautifully balanced, delicately herbal cocktail transcends mediocrity.

The "So So Cocktail" is documented in Harry MacElhone's 1923 Harry of Ciro's ABC Of Mixing Cocktails. MacElhone attributes the drink to "Mr P. Soso, the popular manager of Kit-Kat Club, London." The recipe provided is: So So Cocktail. 1/6 Grenadine, 1/6 Calvados, 1/3 Cinzano Vermouth, 1/3 Gin. (Invented by Mr, P. Soso, the popular manager of Ciro's Club, London. This recipe is reproduced in Harry Craddock's 1930 The Savoy Cocktail Book. However, Craddock modifies MacElhone's instruction for "Cinzano Vermouth" to a more general "Italian vermouth". SO-SO COCKTAIL. 1/6 Grenadine. 1/6 Calvados. 1/3 Italian Vermouth. 1/3 Gin. Shake well and strain into cocktail glass.
