Ingredients

1 oz Gin
1/2 oz Blue curaçao liqueur
1/3 oz Orange Curaçao
1/4 oz Grand Marnier
1/4 oz Lemon juice
1 dash Orange bitters
3 drop Saline solution 4:1

How to make

Serve in a nick & nora glass

  1. 1 Select and pre-chill a NICK & NORA GLASS.
  2. 2 Prepare garnish of red rose petal.

  1. 3 SHAKE all ingredients with ice.
  2. 4 FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.

History

This drink, a blue-hued variation on the Red Lion which won Tarling's 1933 competition, was conceived with the ambition of honoring another English victory. It features one orange-flavoured liqueur to represent each of the three lions. Enjoy this cocktail while reciting the chant: "It's coming home, it's coming home, It's coming football's coming home It's coming home, it's coming home It's coming football's coming home."

Along with the three lions, England's team logo depicts ten rosettes, symbolising the rose of Lancaster, the official emblem of England. Fortuitously, the English Football Association also resides at London's Lancaster Gate. There are ten rosettes to represent the ten regions with a seat on the FA Council. The three lions emblem derives from the Royal Arms of England, which originated with Richard I (1189–1199), the first of the Plantagenet kings who ruled from 1154. Better known as King Richard the Lionheart, the three lions represented his positions as King of England, Duke of Normandy, and Duke of Aquitaine. The three lions appeared on the Royal Arms of every succeeding monarch.
