History
Crockett's original recipe uses two-thirds genever to one-third sweet vermouth. This results in an overly dry cocktail, so the proportion of vermouth to genever has been increased. Using a quality oude genever, this cocktail is nutty and makes for an interesting aperitif.
This recipe originates from Albert Stevens Crockett's 1935 publication, The Old Waldorf-Astoria Bar Book. TURF Dash of Angostura Bitters One-third Italian Vermouth Two-thirds Hollands Gin (Stir) It was noted that at times a good half, perhaps even two-thirds, of the patrons in the Bar had an interest in horse racing.
