History
Lime works better than lemon but like the Astor, a combination of lime and lemon produces an even better drink.
This is the later of two versions of this vintage cocktail from New York's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, appearing in the 1939 Café Royale book and the 1955 United Kingdom Bartender's Book. Both cite the original recipe as calling for two parts Swedish punch to one part gin, with a choice between lemon or lime juice. However, with most modern Swedish punches, this ratio results in an overly sweet drink.
