History

A dry, lightly bitter aperitif that emphasizes genever's bready qualities and mandarin liqueur's bright, zesty freshness.

The drink is named after the Battle of Waterloo, fought on Sunday 18th June 1815 near Waterloo, in what is now Belgium but was then part of the Netherlands. Napoleon Bonaparte's French army was defeated by a Prussian army under Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher, Prince of Wahlstatt, and an Anglo-Allied army led by the Duke of Wellington. This defeat marked the end of Napoleon's time as French Emperor.
