History

Balanced or slightly sour, not sweet. The choice of apricot liqueur will affect the need for added sugar; adjust accordingly for deliciousness.

The Webster Cocktail is adapted from Harry Craddock's 1930 book, The Savoy Cocktail Book. The recipe is as follows: WEBSTER COCKTAIL. 1/8 Lime Juice. 1/8 Apricot Brandy. 1/4 French Vermouth. 1/2 Plymouth Gin. Shake well and strain into cocktail glass. Craddock noted this as a favorite at the bar of the S.S. Mauretania. Launched in 1906, the Mauretania was, at the time of Craddock's writing, one of the most famous ships for its luxury, its status as the world's largest ship, and particularly for its speed, which secured it the record for the fastest trans-Atlantic crossing for two decades. Five years after Craddock's book was published, the ship was retired. Its bell now hangs at the Lloyd's Register in London's Fenchurch Street, where it is rung each year on Remembrance Day.
