History

The creator's original equal parts build is found to work best, despite other formulations being tried. A grapefruit zest twist is essential to the recipe's success. Warning: for aficionados of bittersweet aperitifs and gentian.

Wayne Collins created this cocktail in 2001 at VinExpo in Bordeaux, France. The drink was made for Nick Blacknell, who was the brand director for Plymouth Gin at the time. Later, Simon Ford, then an ambassador for Plymouth Gin, introduced the drink to Audrey Saunders. It quickly became a popular item on the menu at her Pegu Club in its early days.
