History

This cocktail is a fusion of the Widow's Kiss and the Last Word. As Andrew Gelb, a fellow member of Discerning Drinker, noted in a comment on the Last Word cocktail page, it is "a Monte Cassino with the rye replaced by calvados or apple brandy --> Delicious!"

Eric Witz, a cocktail enthusiast from Boston, created this drink and shared his equal-parts recipe on Instagram in late 2015. Chase Hoffman, a photographer of cocktails, developed a variation that is drier and more forward with apple brandy. Hoffman shared his recipe: "1.5 oz unaged apple brandy, 1.0 oz fresh lemon juice. 1.0 oz Yellow Chartreuse, 0.5 oz Bénédictine."
