The cognac influence definitely is present in the nose with grape jam notes, along with vanilla, mild oak, clove, and butterscotch. Overall aroma is pretty muted. Ethanol slightly higher than it should be given the proof but it’s not a deal breaker. Palate brings some interesting things in the form of grape and strawberry preserve, whipped cream, the butterscotch from the nose, hazelnut, and a hint of chocolate. Flavors are offer some complexity but are not very punchy; slightly flat. Short ass finish consists of clove, cinnamon, a hint of white pepper, and immature oak. Tastes “young” and nothing above average here. There is a little bit of grape must which carries over from the nose, to the palate, to the finish. Mouthfeel is a SLIKY smooth medium-bodied and that IS very above average. The cognac finish does some good things but can’t hide the fact that the base bourbon is very meh, and if I’m guessing right quite youthful. At $39.99, this is wonderfully priced in todays market, but not even the best 1792 option as I’d rather have bottled-in-bond at the same price point. Falls short of rebuy status.

1792 Cognac Cask Finish is made at Barton 1792 Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky using the same high-rye mash bill, fermentation & distillation process as 1792 Small Batch Bourbon. After its initial maturation, it's placed into cognac casks for at least six months for finishing. These barrels were placed on the top floors of the rickhouses to intensify aging and wood interaction due to the higher temperatures. This is the first cask-finished expression to be added to the brand's permanent portfolio. Available beginning September 2025 nationwide. (SRP $37.99)

Immediate nose opening you can get the stone fruit and sweet vanilla. After 30 mins of leaving open it completely changes. Super amooth and like a dessert wine you can drink a little of it and feel full from the richness. Saw a review where it is almost a banana foster taste in the mid palate. Which i can see its hard to pinpoint. Good pour for the price. Very unique pour.
Very sweet on the nose and is the best part. The pallet seams a 1792 that has been finished, enough to give it some cognac wine notes. It’s a good sipper but says one dimensional. Perhaps after the bottle has time to open up it’ll become better. For $50 I’d get another one just to have.

For an allocated spirit that is also relatively low priced, I’m very happy to have snagged this one. I don’t have a pro palate, but I liked it. Smooth, not at all harsh, oily perhaps; overall delicious! I hope Barton brings it back!!
Grape and fruit on the nose. Palate is a dry oak with hints of sweet. The finish is quick and light. Very fruity and drier than expexted.
