NOSE Buttery cinnamon toast, concentrated raisin in the background, astringent woody touches, glacé cherry, barrel char. PALATE Big sweet butter hit, with maple syrup, brown sugar, plump raisins, nutmeg, milk chocolate and more of the char from the nose. FINISH Medium length, with chocolate, raisins and more char. COMMENT A sweet dram with good levels of sherry spice and richness, although not overly heavy. There is a touch of welcome bitter char that reigns the dram in before it can become too sweet, providing excellent balance.
About this bottle
Aberlour is Gaelic for "mouth of the chattering burn," the stream that joins up with the river Spey, which flows past the distillery. This version of their 12 year (NOT to be confused with the double cask of the same age) is matured exclusively in first-fill Oloroso sherry butts. The casks are hand selected in Spain each year by the master distiller.

There is not a more "8 over 10" whisky than Aberlour. Not bad, not good enough. A very drinkable and cheap option, a few interesting notes here and there. Bottled at 40%abv, amber color. On the nose, Strawberries, Sherry, Dim aroma but very pleasant, Cola, Almonds. On the palate, Oak very pleasant, Spicy peppery, Very easy to enjoy, a little Salty and Apricots. Finish a little ashy medium long. Overall this is an 85 over 100, i would recommend it for the price tag and the easy drinking.
The terms sweet, pleasant and inoffensive comes to mind with this one. Nice sweetness, a bit like a mellow cheaper bourban in some ways. But it has the sherry component. Its good but has little flavour complexity and a bit boring. I didn't even bother finishing it in the end as it wasn't worth hanging around for as I moved on to another event. 3.25
Beautiful color! Cherry-vanilla and a light spice on the nose. Rich and malty on the palate with notes of dark cherries, chocolate, and candied almonds. Surprisingly not as sweet as expected, but the sherry cask shines with just the right amount of flavor. An excellent first fill whiskey, especially for the price.
color: mahogany taste: classic Speyside with notable sherry influences of nutmeg, currant fruitcake, oak, and vanilla aroma: rich with vanilla and cinnamon crumb-cake with light spice finish: medium long and fruit forward
