You ever get a bottle of bourbon as a gift and wish people would have just let you drink your own bourbon in peace instead? This is that bottle... Batch 4, case #2730. Finished in Chardonnay barrels. Others have mentioned other wines but this is Chardonnay only. The nose has a punchy amount of caramel with tones of raisin, milk chocolate and ritz crackers. Entry is viscous with caramel, grape jam and then a slow transition to a strong vegetal note that reminds me of having a sinus infection. Why. This may work for some people. Sadly, I believe it is essentially an April fools of a bourbon - a well disguised prank. Never has a finish so ruined a bourbon. I want to drink more and find that it goes away but it keeps coming back. Lovely bourbon - and then something takes a dump in my mouth. I’m gonna go sit in the corner and burn this off by slurping Bookers mixed with cask strength Makers.
Amador Double Barrel Bourbon Finished in Napa Valley Wine Barrels
About this bottle
Amador Whiskey Co. Double Barrel Bourbon began its journey in Kentucky, where almost 300 barrels of 3- to 10-year bourbons aging in charred American oak were purchased. These barrels traveled to St. Helena, California, where Amador Whiskey Co (owned by Trinchero Family Estates) transfers the bourbon into the family's Napa Valley wine barrels for an extra 6 months of finishing. It's bottled at 43.4% ABV and was launched in the summer of 2015.

3.0 stars - Good; 750 ml bottle You know, I actually had a really good time. Many times, I’ve gone to a social event out of a sense of obligation. Then I end up having an engaging conversation with someone new. We debate, we laugh. Are we best friends? No. Did we trade info? No. But, man, that was a fun evening. Amador is that whiskey. I received it as a birthday gift. Based on the reviews, I put off opening this for a long time. You know what? This is a really fun whiskey. Easy to drink, easy to enjoy.
Apple and floral off the nose. Also hints of caramel on the nose. First sip gives good oak and toasted char flavor. Red wine finish with decent burn throughout. I definitely get a Chardonnay profile as it finishes as well. Full mouth taste and nice long linger. Add a cube of ice and burn almost disappeared. Great bourbon.
Definitely smell the red wine on the nose, with a sweetness underneath, something like plum pudding. First thing i notice on the tongue is that the body is razor thin. Same light sweet plum flavor as on the nose, but the flavors themselves are super light. Tastes watered down and airy, might go well with a dessert.
Apples, apricots, vanilla, and oak. It’s definitely light and a bit fruity; flavor is quick and clean but with some spice. Not a lot of ethanol. It’s unique, and pretty good I think. 86 is a good proof for it, it has some heat but is mostly light and pleasant. Also I love that they list the mash bill on the bottle.
Nose: Chardonnay nose with vanilla and sweetness, mild dried apricots. Very unique nose Taste: Mild spice that dies fast and same for the bourbon. It goes from tasting like bourbon to tasting like wine. Overall: hate the finish. Doesn’t like bourbon
