The pioneers of American single malt have achieved something that Kavalan never convinced me of - turbo maturation is possible! Rich and dense, the nose opens up with leather, sour cherries and cocoa. Polished hardwood, plum juice and allspice chime in. There is a lot to unpack here. Bold and punchy in the arrival, the palate develops with treacle, blackberries and peppery spices. Take small sips without water - this Balcones shoots from the hip. Roasted coffee, burnt sugar and fresh mint characterize the long finish. A venomous snake, I'm loving it! RATING: 4.2/5.0 stars ≙ 89 pts → FIRST-CLASS [+]
