Found this at Total Wine and jumped on it as I am a total Balcones disciple. They take their standard single malt (which is pretty great) and finish it in freshly dumped Madeira casks from Texas based Haak Winery. This gives a deep ruby tone and a succulent aroma. Nose is bursting with dark fruits and berries. Blackberry, plum, blackcurrant present with malt and light ginger in the background. Palate is dense with the heavy dark fruits merging with the house malty peach profile. Mild barrel and baking spice support with a flash of tobacco leaf. Finish is long carrying the palate notes adding a bit of dark chocolate and drying oak. To give some perspective this is more earthy and shall I say damp than a bright sugary sweet sherry finish. Another home run for Balcones which at this point is not surprising. If you like their other single malts and happen to see this buy it. To quote Mike Damone "you wont regret it".....91/100.......I paid $75 for this its worth it

Tons of flavor packed into this whiskey! Lots of plum and oak with some roasted nuts, grapes, and fig. The heat definitely warms your chest.
