About this bottle

This release from Barrell Craft Spirits is an extension of their core Foundation bottling — a blend of straight bourbon whiskeys from multiple states — with a secondary maturation in new American oak casks. Bourbons from Indiana (5, 6 & 9 years-old), Maryland (5 & 6 years-old), Kentucky (8 year-old), and Tennessee (8 year-old) were blended. Bottled at 100 proof, it's available beginning January 2025. (SRP $54.99)

Aroma opens with baking spices (allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove) followed by citrus, stone fruit, fig, and green oak. Ethanol is not very prevalent, but is lurking in the background. Palate brings flan, light caramel and vanilla, the fig from the nose, orange whip, bakers chocolate, toffee, tea leaf, and bittering wood/oak. Decent robustness but maybe lacking some complexity and depth. Finish offers toasted oak, rye spice, white pepper, allspice, nougat, and pipe tobacco. The white pepper and oak notes linger. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and creamy without a hint of harshness. Some really nice elements here and things come together nicely to offer a pretty well integrated experience. So why is my review so restrained versus raving about it? Well, some youngish elements manage to sneak through; maybe slightly hotter and more bitter than it could be. I think at 7 years instead of 5 this might be a real treasure. That said, a solid offering from Barrell. At $53, the value is there. I struggled with the final rating on this for some time, and ultimately while I did enjoy it at the price point I would grab some other things first. Since 3.95 is not available here, a reluctant 3.75 will have to do.

on the nose I get get chocolate covered raisins, ofc, the vanilla, a caramel, a little honey in there, an the slightest amount of cherry. 🍒 On the palate I get the toasted marshmallow I’d expect to get on the nose. On the second sip I got a little brightness to it like coconut. Finish is fairly quick and rounds out nicely. A fairly quick finish that rounds out nicely sounds like the perfect balance — enough flavor to satisfy but smooth enough to keep you coming back.

Appearance- dark amber Nose- red hot candies, oak, banana. Palate- sweet woody. Spicy cinnamon candy coated fruit cocktail. Drying, long finish of sugary tobacco. Some grape/banana/maple flashes in the mid. Fairly complex, love everything about the finish Overall- Fun begining substantial middle and an enjoyable long finish. Redhots, fruit pie, with a puff of a sweet cigar at the end.

Just super solid all around. Lots of cream corn on the nose with some dried berries. The palate brings fresh berries along with some vanilla cream and a hint of oak. Finish is short, but pleasant with the vanilla note hanging around at the end.

Vanilla and caramel I'm the nose. Perhaps with some fruit. Flavor is sweet, with toasted oak, vanilla, and creme brulee crust.
