I did a side by side with this Barrell 13yr Sib cs (barrel #L950) Canadian rye and and a Barrell rye cs 4yr rye batch #003. Color : the 13 year is a few shades lighter. 13yr Nose : Rich almost winey what I expect with a canadian. Deep sweet rye spice. Batch 3 nose : light ethanol, still rich but not as much, rye with a little vegetable Batch 3 Taste: sharp wood sweet rye with a little heat. Bitter and sweet numb finish. 4.15/5 13 yr taste: this one swirls so nicely with good size legs. Rich multi layered, sweet earthy rye, dry wine, caramel and light apples. Sweet rye lingers with a medium numb finish 4.6/5 Conclusion: It's hard to compare these even though they are both Barrell. Definitely different styles of rye. Batch 3 has a lot of Indiana and maybe polish rye influence. I am a sucker for a high proof nicely aged Canadian so the 13yr wins. They are both great and would never turn down either.

Lock stock 16 year rye vs Barrell 13 year rye 13 Nose : tart, rich spicey rye light ethanol 16 nose : sweet rich tangy almost like cheese but not 13 taste : tangy funk rye spicy, citrus fruits with a good funky spicy finish 16 taste : rich sweet smooth and oaky, rich desert wine rye with a lighter spicy finish Well I sampled the 13 first tonight and it showed up. It has more depth and spice and the flavor I want in a rye. I have rated the lock 16 higher before seperately. Lock is no slouch, very rich and sweet with a nice oak finish. Tonight the barrell wins but could be different another night. Either way both great ryes! Barrell 13 - 9.5/10 Lock 16 - 9.25/10
