About this bottle

This rye whiskey is sourced from Canada using grains from the Pacific Northwest. The mash bill is 100% rye and the barrels were hand selected by Rob Cooper from the folks at Alberta Distillery Limited in Calgary. 13 Year-old rye whiskey doesn't come around every day, so expect to pay-to-play. The impressive packaging must be commented on: the black glass bottle is very nicely designed, wrapped in tissue paper, sealed with a wax stamp, and enclosed in a dark wooden box. Rye lovers should add this to your wish list!

The Whiskey Viking 4.0

Found this at a local watering hole (Overtime in Lombard, IL.) that has a fantastic bourbon selection. Nose has a medicinal value due to the intense rye, grains, cheerios, floral, slight sweet. Palate of nutmeg and other cooking spices, cherry cough drops, rye dough, young un-ripened berries. Mouth feel coats the entire mouth with a slight oil and a lovely oil numbing. If you're a rye lover do not pass this up. Keep drinking my friends... Skol

Neat. Unique flavor. Different than anticipated ... in a good way "0-1: Beyond bad. Complete waste of money according to my tastebuds. 2: Bad. Simply not my taste 2.5: Sub-par. Ill drink it... but only because its whiskey. 3: Good. Decent stuff, but not a rebuy 3.5: Very good. I might buy again 4: Excellent: Will be purchasing a bottle asap 4.5: Incredible: top of the purchase list 5:Amazing: cost and taste are worth every cent""

Nose: spicy, apple pie, vanilla. Palate: somewhat full body, spicy, vanilla, but finish is tannic. Not terribly balanced on the flavors. After being in a glencairn for awhile the finish mellows to almost nothing. Overall- it is not a bad rye, I like the age, nose and initial mouthfeel. It is not one of my favorites and I would not spend $120 retail on this. 3 - 3.5 / 5

This is impeccable. This rye doesn't kick too much or weigh you down. It seemed pretty clean and balanced. It seemed dryer or maybe slightly smoky? It was such a different taste then I normally expect from a rye I has trouble making out some of the complexities! Bravo, Lock, Stock, and Barrel-- you are a lovely rye.

I'm willing to try this out again in a month or so, but all I get in the flavor is strong pencil eraser notes. Just terrible. I'm astounded by all the positive reviews. I also ran into a similar situation with the WhistlePig Rye 15 year. Thinking there's a theme with me and Canadian Rye....

It has that great bready nose that I love from complex ryes, but it's surprisingly "thin" on first sip. That's not to say it not enjoyable by any means, but the higher-aged Willetts are more what I'm looking for. Without taking price into consideration, this is a great rye.
