About this bottle

Becherovka is an herbal liqueur that was first developed by Czech businessman and pharmacist Josef Vitus Becher in 1807, originally intended as a stomach cure. Becherovka is an herbal liqueur from the Czech Republic. It's often drunk neat as a digestif, but I think it could have some uses in cocktails. Sadly, you probably won't find a ton of recipes that call for it, but you can certainly use this as an alternative to other herbal liqueurs, such as Yellow Chartreuse (although I prefer Yellow over this). The nose immediately hits you with menthol and allspice. The palate is pretty sweet with some cinnamon and gentian. The heat hits you on the finish, along with the bitterness. Neither of which is that bad though. I didn't find this too complex, it's solid enough, but I think where this excels is in cocktails. Again though, you won't find many out there (difford's guide has a few though so I would start there). The one drink that I really enjoyed was Becherovka with tonic water (2oz of Becherovka to 4oz Tonic which I've heard called a Beton). The cost isn't that bad for this, but the lack of uses may make it a tough sell for most people. If you enjoy herbal liqueurs neat, then this may be a nice add to your collection, but I have a feeling for most this will be a pass.

You open the door of your mountain cabin and the cold air chills your lungs. You pull on a heavy coat of leather and flannel that smells of firewood. As you trek through the snow looking for that perfect holiday pine tree, you hear the sound of deer crunching through the snow in the distance. You find that perfect tree and with each swing of the axe, the smell of winter and pine resin fills your nostrils. Tree in tow, you make your way back to your warm roaring fire as large snowflakes begin to fall. You inhale deeply, taking in the cold crisp silence that comes with winter in the woods. It tastes like that.

AnttiRG 3.5

An intense, herbal liqueur (one of the world's oldest bitters) from Carlsbad, Czech Republic made with more than 20 carefully selected herbs & spices from across the world coupled with to a secret recipe & a unique maceration process. It has an aromatic birth with notes of infused herbs & spices; while a bold life adds notes of cinnamon, aniseed, mint & thick honey; that leads to a long & spicy death. May 2020 / August 2021

Tastes like Christmas, with a heavy Clove presence and Akvavit fennel taste, bitterness is pronounced on the finish. Cannot wait to try during cold wintery weather.

Not a huge liqueur fan but this one is good. Starts sweet on the tongue but quickly adds bitter notes from the various herbs. Bitter aftertaste lingers pleasantly.

On the nose it has scents of pear and elderberry, but a faint background of bug spray. On the tongue it is strong clover flavour with a cinnamon aftertaste.
