About this bottle

Bib & Tucker Double Char Bourbon is a twice-aged Tennessee bourbon whiskey. This Tennessee bourbon follows the Lincoln County process so after distillation and before it was filled into the barrels for aging it was filtered through sugar maple charcoal. Then it was aged for 6 years in new white American oak barrels followed by a secondary aging for five months in a heavily-charred & sugar maple smoked new barrel. Available nationally beginning August 2023. (SRP $54.99)

Color: Medium Copper-Amber Nose: Smoky-Oaky nose. There's some leather and brown sugar in there, as well. Nice nose. Palate: (drank with an ice cube) Spicy on the initial sip. Little to no burn. Slightly understated profile. Probably shouldn't be too surprised at 88 proof, but enjoyable nonetheless. What I like is that I'm actually getting the elusive "vanilla" that I hear so much about, but never quite get. As the ice dilutes, a hint of "cherry" sneaks into the picture. Slight bitterness that I find inherent in a lot of bottles. Nothing off-putting. I was hoping for the "smokiness" of the nose to carry-over a little more than it does. Finish: Short buttery and sweet. Final Thoughts: I tasted this first at a bourbon tasting at my local grocery store. The tiny sample they gave was good enough to get me to buy a bottle. There's nothing complex about it, but it's quite enjoyable. The relatively low proof was also a selling point (I can't be drinking 110+ proofs all the time). Will I buy again? Maybe. There's a lot of competition out there. A respectable 3.75 stars.

After time, the oak char has settled more into the sweetness, almost like drinking an older 'dusty' bourbon and has made this enjoyable. Before opening up. it was so bitter, but it has improved dramatically. It took so long to open up too that I may give double-oaked and charred bourbons more time before reviewing. (Original review: I was excited about this release and thought it would upgrade the already good Bib & Tucker 6 year bourbon, but it nukes it. The nose and palate still contain the yummy cola/root beer notes that B & T excel at, but on the back palate and finish the oak and char announce their presence and it's bitter, hot, and spicy.)

A dark perfume of oak char and roasted corn on the nose. Readily inviting and full of conviviality. The taste is lighter than expected of a double char, but this is of benefit, as it allows the flavor of the mash bill to come through more clearly. A somewhat heavy entry leads to warm and bouncy bourbon flavors enrobed in a blanket of wood. The finish is long and ends with a smooth and satisfying finish. Overall, this is an excellent whiskey and one which you will find yourself making fast friends with.

A bold Bourbon form Tennessee 1st aged for 6 years new white American oak, followed by a minimum of 5 months in a 2nd heavily charred & smoked new barrel before being bottled at 88 proof. It has an aromatic birth of grain, wood & spice; while a complex life adds notes of sweet corn, dulce de leche, cinnamon, clove, sugar maple; that led to a woody death of medium length with notes of oak & a hint of smoke. Definitely better than thd standard bib. Little not subtle. Very slight cherry. Mostly oak which is nice and old tasting.

Nose: cedar, marshmallow. Palette: syrup, slight char, graham cracker, vanilla in the finish. Dryness kicks in later.
