Hand selected single barrel pick from Jax liquors in Chattanooga Tennessee. Sticks quite tightly to the glass. Only a few slow appearing legs. Nose is a little hot, shows plenty of rye, and quite a bit of barrel for something with a 3-year age statement. Creme brulee, green apple, flaked barley or rye from the bulk bins at the co-op, and a faint hint of eucalyptus come out through plenty of fresh hewn white oak. Front is initially sweet, but the heat builds and moves quickly to the barrel and the rye spice. The early part of the finish is almost bitter and woody before trailing off with caramel, vanilla, clove and cacao It is soft on the palate, although a bit thin. The mouthfeel and the finish improve nicely with a bit of water... It brings out a good bit more sweetness, and stretches out the sip a bit. At 40 bucks, I can't be disappointed in this at all. It is an excellent value. That said, it's young, and that's definitely apparent... they're doing something right though, and I'm willing to stay tuned I'll try it in an old fashioned, for sure.

SPEC’s SINGLE BARREL // Proof - 123.3 // ABV - 61.65% // Barrel No. - 17571 NEAT NOSE - Soft on the nose, but clear caramel, vanilla, and honey. PALATE - I’ve had higher proof bourbons, and this one doesn’t drink below it’s proof like some others but it’s not a bad thing. I get a rich and oily mouthfeel with the notes of honey, caramel, and vanilla transferred over from the nose. FINISH - Medium to long. Hot and Spicy. BUY? - Absolutely. This is a bargain for less than $50. BUY AGAIN?? - No doubt. This will likely be a shelfer for me. Also the fact that single barrels and store picks of this bourbon can be found easily and for very reasonable and affordable prices is amazing in today’s bourbon market. You can try it and if you don’t like it, you wont feel bad because it was only $45 or so. However, I doubt you wont find something to like about this pour. After going back to this one, I prefer it over a block of ice.
Blue Note Juke Joint Whiskey Single Barrel Uncut (Greens Farms Spirits) "Blue Steel" Barrel#17970, 62.05 ABV Proof: 124.1, no age statement. Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Medium-dark amber. Nose: Sweet caramel with apple, apricot, and raisin. Palate: Clove and baking spice on the tip of the tongue, oak tannins on the back. Finish: Medium length with medium heat. Splash: Sweetness from the nose returns, mixing with the clove. Overall: 8.5/10 - This drinks below its proof, but has a little more spice in the palate than I like. This is calmed with a few drops of water. A good bargain for under $50.
A1 Wine & Spirits Store Pick Barrel # 17510 120.7 Proof Some light vanilla and caramel that quickly goes to lumber (think walking into that part of a big hardware store) and some non-peanut nutshell. Maybe a hint of walnut. Grainy. Flavor starts off like sweet honey and slight caramel. Goes quickly to heat and spice. Cinnamon and hot clove with major tingle on the mid-palate. Fades to oak and some walnut at the back palate. Finish is drying. Oak (think hardware store, not fresh cut) and walnut.
Bottled at 62+% ABV. I believe this comes from Barton, bottled in Memphis. On the nose I get vanilla and green apple. Surprising to me, not a lot of ethanol on the nose for what I believe is only 3-4 year old bourbon. The palate is buttery caramel and the apple shows there as well. A little warmth going down, but drinks lower than its proof. Young and not particularly complex, but definitely not bad at only 42$. Between this and the Riverset Rye barrel pick, I prefer the Rye.
Single barrel survivor store pick, and I wasn’t sure what to expect other than the guys kept saying it was interesting. Turns out it’s interesting in a good way if you like very smooth buttery vanilla caramel pour! Scent is vanilla and a slight bit of banana. After opening it for a few days the true caramel and vanilla flavors come out. Surprisingly there’s only a hint of wood at the end along with warmth, but not alcohol burn. Picked up a second bottle before they’re gone.
