Blue Run Kentucky Straight Cask Strength Rye (2021 Holiday Edition)

This is my third time tasting this dram and ready to review. I’ll say, it’s most helpful to warm up for this one. Typically, I warm up for a high proof but this pour requires an alert palate. I’d suggest 2 wildly different expressions then dive into this beauty. This is a wildly floral dram. A bouquet of bourbon. Literally roses on the nose and rose water on the palate. There’s booze too and you’ll love it. The palate and finish are seemless. A flaky cinnamon pastry, airy, a hint of lemon. Crazy overpriced in the lobby of your hotel but you buy it every morning you’re there. This is: - Savory - Viscous - Complex - Floral - Spring This is not: - Traditional rye - High proof - Exceptional out of the blue - Inexpensive - Wintery

This comes in at a delightful 106 proof. The immediate when opened is apples and baking spices. A dessert in a bottle. I get notes of brown sugar, maple syrup, cherries, and everything great about the holidays. I really like what Blue Run has done with Rye Whiskey.

Neat… nose is nice. Nice sweet flavor, then spiced cherry then heat on back of tongue. I like it. A lot of character, nice drinker. Price is questionable.

This is a pretty tasty rye, light on spice and easy to drink this is dangerous stuff. On the sweeter side with notes of cherry. Love it.

The question with Blue Run is always "is it worth it?". In this case, I'd say probably not but it's still a damn good rye.

Got a ton of spice in this one. Has the most flavor of the 3 I’ve had.
