Review #301 Whiskey Tour of the World 2025 #8 Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Light amber. Nose: Cereal and fruit notes abound. Palate: A mix of bakkng spice and oak. Finish: The finish is not especially hot, but it's surprisingly long with more of that baking spice note. Splash: No new flavors are revealed. Overall: 8.5/10 - This started off with a fairly unimpressive nose, leaving me to think it could be another basic, average Irish whiskey. From my original low expectations, this was a sucker punch of flavor in the palate and a finish that's impressive, even for a finished Irish whiskey. The time spent in ex-bourbon barrels is well presented here.
About this bottle
Family-owned Boann Distillery located in Co. Meath, Ireland released a trio of single pot still whiskeys in mid-2024. Each one was made with a mixed mash bill of Irish grown grains: malted barley, unmalted barley, oats, and rye. This release was initially matured in charred ex-bourbon barrels and then finished in a variety of Madeira casks from Justino's Madeira Wines. These Madeira casks were made from French oak and held cognac previously. Bottled at 47% ABV, availability in the US begins January 2025. (SRP $69)

An apple vinegar off the nose gives way to more apple and deeper raisin undertones. It drinks lighter than the nose with a little bit of acidity. Fast finish. Wish the palate fit better to the nose.
