Nose: burnt oak and chared brown sugar. You dig a lottle more and you get spme caramel aromas. Palate: first sip was a bit disappointing with a thin mouth feel for 108 proof, but after a couple more sips the rich oak flavors and fuity notes come out Finish: sweet mellowing finish where the oak continues all the way through. Hint of caramel comes back in at the end. Im a big oak fan and this bourbon has really nice oak from the nose all the way to the finish.
Bomberger's Declaration (2021 Release)
About this bottle
This bottling from Michter's Legacy Series is a tribute to the distillery founded in the 1800s near Schaefferstown, PA that later became Michter's. Like previous releases, some Chinquapin oak (Quercus muhlenbergii) was used in the maturation process that were specially air dried for 3 years. However, for this year's release, the Michter's team adjusted the char levels on this oak. The resulting small batch bourbon was bottled at 108 proof and available in limited quantities.

Copper hue 2021 release Bottle 1684 out of 1768 Batch 21E1350 Herbal nose, some chocolate Very complex palette, all over from chocolate to candied peanuts, licorice, slight heat with funnel cake sweetness? Long oaky finish that winds through sweet corn and more herbs like oregano. Excellent proof for this expression
Hot! Really hot & dense! Even had this after an Old Fitz 15 2021. Loved that, but there's something about this that didn't appeal to me. Even Shenks' had a bit of something alike from this that didn't feel right. Reply below of you've had the same feeling.
Absolutely perfect in every way. The heavier char on the barrels is definitely present this year and the chinquapin oak adds unique flavor and depth not seen with other bourbons. Perfect proof (108) for neat sipping. Finish lingers to perfection. A+++
Tasted in October 2022 at Bar Tohnen in Osaka, Japan. Very much enjoyed this, but it had a hard time standing up to the others I tasted on this epic evening.
Nose: brown sugar, cinnamon, char and smoke, oak. Well balanced and smooth overall. Fruit, faint licorice, oak, cinnamon, some char. Great bourbon overall.
