On a trip to Florida and four of us are trying four high proof wheated bourbons: Lanceny barrel proof batch A120 and B520, both bottom third Makers Mark barrel stave program with 6 French mocha staves 109 proof, top third Boone County 7yr SiB 121 proof, top third Pretty stiff competition with very close scoring We all appreciate sharing thoughts. One will say "I get ---" and the replies vary from "Yeah, now that you mention it" or, "No not at all" . Nobody is offended by any opinion. A great way to spend the afternoon with ribs on the smoker. This one is very hot on the nose but there's lots of oaky caramel that I love. The palate is true and it drinks beyond its proof. I find it Balcones hot not the subtle hot of Stagg Jr or ECBP As I try to get past the hot ethanol, a little water helps a lot. 15 minutes of air later and we are taming the beast and it really opens it up. Rich butterscotch comes along as does some citrus. The finish is predominately butterscotch and very long. I like that. This was my number three but others had it lower. Showing my bias, I was hoping for this as number one. It hasn't been open long so it may improve. Several days later and it's still very hot but at about 105-110 it's really enjoyable.

This is a re-taste from a bottle open nine months ago. It's from barrel BCW34 and clocks in at 121.7 proof. Last taste was hot with ethanol, this time not so much but it's there. Complex nose built around butterscotch but there's a mango or peach element and some baking spices in the background as well. The two play off each other very well and I gotta say I like nosing this one. On the palate, I'm getting buttered caramel corn and a touch of tropical fruit with a little nutmeg. The burn from months past is gone. It really fills the mouth with flavor in a chewy kinda way. Love the texture. Gives you that Kentucky hug with a long burnt marshmallow finish that really lasts. I have but two pours left. Maybe I'll take a trip up north.
I got batch 17 of the OHLQ pick and its phenomenal and knowing how rare and exclusive it is I dont mind paying 96 bucks for it. It's the closest thing to a WLW your ever gonna find in this state crazy for the proof how there is barely any ethanol on the palate. Just creamy and delicious. Or maybe I'm just an alcoholic that loves all bourbon lol. Update: trying this against the WLW like I mentioned before it this holds it's own. This being 97 and the WLW being 100 you can almost taste the 3 dollar difference If you try really really hard.
This is an excellent pour. I have Ohio barrel pick BWC025. Im not rating it higher than 4 bc of the price. At $94 its not a great value. It would be more accurately priced in the $60 range, but if you want a great tasting wheated bourbon, this is a great choice
Barrel 27, first barrel at lower proof Nose, cinnamon bun...apple fritter...French toast, yum! Taste, more complex than expected, good proof with sweet finish. Really drinkable, no ice no water. Getting a red hot candy finish. Really happy with this barrel!
Super oily and busting with flavor: very smooth for such a high proof. Nose is caramel and butterscotch. Spice is the first flavor noticed. Light spearmint, vanilla and sweet caramel then flow across your tastebuds. Long warm finish of lightly burnt caramel.
