Nose eminates of honeyed pecans/almonds/walnuts. As you delve into the Palate, the honey and caramel notes come to the forefront until the back Palate sneaks up the tongue with some bitterness and sting. The initial Finish continues with the bitterness, reminiscent of coffee flavors and helping tie the relationship between the whiskey and stout cask this was finished in. This quickly transitions back to the Nose with lingering honeyed cereals and nuts hanging on the tongue. While this Finish lasts short, it lasts long enough to complete this well rounded whiskey with a smile and another pour.
Breckenridge Buddy Pass Imperial Stout Cask Whiskey
About this bottle
Buddy Pass is a collaboration between Breckenridge Distillery and Breckenridge Brewery which are just 2.5 miles apart. First, the brewery made an Imperial Stout. Then the stout was aged in ex-Breckenridge Bourbon barrels. After the stout finished its maturation, the barrels were dumped and sent back to Breckenridge Distillery which aged their whiskey for 10-13 months. Bottled at 54.25%, just 400 bottles were produced. Launched November 2021.

For this Breckenridge offering the stout notes are there and the proof is just right. I’m getting a lot of milk/lactose sugars on the entire palate. Notes of rich chocolate, toffee, and burnt brown sugar. The oak undertones are nice, and there’s a chocolate ice-cream finish that lingers. *Be patient… Sip three/four does it!* As the bourbon opens up the stout finish comes more to life! Very good pour!
This one was a bit more harsh than I would expect. There were very sweet notes up front in the nose and very soft on the pallet but then the harsh burn comes. The initial pallet is notes od vanilla and cream but thay quickly disappears.
A really nice bourbon. Classic bourbon burn with a nice tasty finish
Cocoa powder, root beer, imperial stout obviously. Very good.
Not overly spicy. Notes of the beer from the barrels
