The whiskey is sourced. So if you're a whiskey snob, that may turn you off. The sourced whiskey is only 1 year old before it is given to the finisher. Nose: fruit cocktail. Cherries from a cherry pie. Pallette: Lots of influence from the Oloroso staves. French apple pie. Finish: Long lasting. Port wine. Though it technically is a bourbon... This is a poor man's Redbreast 12 year. I really want to do a blind taste test between the two. This is a value whiskey. By value I don't mean cheaply made. I mean it is awesome for the price. You cannot tell that it's young.

Aromas are a combination of sweet and oak, with a slight citrus hint. First sip: full body, almost syrup. The oakiness doesn't express as smoke, more of woodiness. The burn hits much later, paired with a slight lemon and maple. The balance is off, too much of the pucker against the supposed smoothness from the staves, which I didn't detect too much of. Enjoyable, yes, but not what I was hoping for.
I cannot believe how good this is. This is a great value. Not to say it tastes cheap. Quite the opposite, rather. For the price, it should not be this complex. It's got a cherry pallet but has a comparable spice level to a Knob Creek. It's 70% but not corny. It balances heat with a smooth body. Great value, one to keep at all times.
N: musty boiled peanuts. Lite and sweet. M: peanut. Lite and cool on the mouth. There is a lite sweetness to it that reminds me of a PB&J.
Rough Might be able to be used as a mixer but neat or rocks it is bad Sorry to say I had high hopes
Straight alcohol came through a little too harsh, nose and palette. Otherwise would be a higher rating
