This is a surprisingly fantastic value blend! They say there's malts from every region of Scotland in this whisky and it really shows. A bit smokey and herbal at first, with a very smooth transition to fruity and floral, plus a light hint of sherry at the end. Finish is a bit short but smooth. Would have been a more interesting dram at higher abv. The grain is so well aged here that this actually tastes more like a blended malt. Apparently this used to have a 15 year statement before the rebottling in 2015. Buchanan's official site now says this is 12 years old. In any case, I'm really glad I discovered this scotch and it's now one of my top picks. Scotland in a bottle!
About this bottle
Although blended whiskies are a great place to start if you are just building your relationship with Scotch, Buchanan’s specifically is a perfect entry-level scotch because of the absence of abrasive peat smoke, the rich cocoa undertones and the complexity of welcoming flavors. In 1884 Canadian born James Buchanan first created Buchanan’s to fill a niche for an affordable entry level blended Scotch and it has since become a worldwide-recognized brand with strong acclaim in South American countries like Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela also enjoying great popularity in Mexico.

Wonderful blended scotch. So complex that makes it so simple to taste and nose. On the nose you will find chocolate, cream, vanilla, coffee and orange. Beautiful aroma. On the palate you get a gentle spicyness which is tasty, caramel, wood, vanilla, banana and coffee. The finish is long and very pleasant. Beautiful experience. After a lot of blended whiskies, in my opinion Buchanan's has the best options and it is the best household. there is peat also somewhere in there. one of the best whiskies on the market
I have lately been lately splurging into high end blended scotch and after the dissapointment that Johnnie Walker 18 was this is such a lovely surprise. Sweet nose. I get some sweet fruity notes. Caramelized apple comes to mind. Sweet & oily mouth feel and a bit of smoke on the finish. This is something I would share with my none scotch drinkers to try to lure them into this hobby. Might have found my favorite blend. Reasonably priced too.
I don’t normally drink blended scotches but this one is very nice. Very smooth and drinkable. Tastes of chocolate covered fruit with just a hint of smoke. Great blend to keep on hand as I think it would appeal to most scotch drinkers.
On the nose, there is a distinct smell of musk, cream, and cereal. All of that disappears as it hits the tongue and is replaced by a taste of lemon cake with dried berries. It finishes with rich caramels.
80 proof. Blended. $38.99, $41.13 w tax. Nuts, roasted caramel, peat, pineapple, apple, sugar, lemon, toasted barley, charred banana, brown sugar, buttered popcorn, oak, honey.
