Soft, subdued nose of caramel and vanilla. Definitely sweet smelling, though not cloying, subtle and nice. Palate is similar but enhanced, vanilla and caramel again giving way to butterscotch. Oak is certainly present, though not as much barrel as many 12 year 90 proof bourbons. Perhaps the cut at four years coming into play here. Finish is familiar, definitely Weller. Medium-long finish that trails off gracefully. Overall, similar to a Weller 12, perhaps it’s more gentle cousin. Definitely an enjoyable bourbon, recommend if able to find

About this bottle
Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection 12 Year Wheated Bourbon, Cut At Four Years is the first Experimental Whiskey release for the brand in 2020. A wheated bourbon recipe first entered a barrel at 114 proof in December 2007 where it remained for four years. Then it was removed and cut with water to bring it down to 100 proof. It re-entered the barrel and aged for another 8 years. Bottled in March 2020 at 90 proof. Sold in 375ml sized bottles in limited quantities beginning May 2020.
