Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection Zinfandel Aged After 10 Years
About this bottle
Released in 2007, this was part of the second batch of experimental whiskeys released by Buffalo Trace. This bourbon was made from BT Rye Mash #1, distilled and barreled in April 1988. After ten years and four months in new, charred American oak, BT moved the spirit to a medium-toasted American oak ex-zinfandel barrel in August 1998. After aging for a total of eighteen years (and 34.17% evaporation), the barrel was emptied in February 2007 and bottled at 45% ABV. Note that this was a bourbon before it went into the ex-zin cask. Under the TTB's interpretation of the law at the time, wine cask finished bourbon had to be labeled as "whiskey."
