Whoa. Never been the first taster of an expression on this site before. Guess I’d better take the responsibility seriously. :) Nose has some standard caramel+stone fruit+oak notes typical to BT products, but also some unique ones as well: getting pretzel bread, ginger, and some musty rye grains which lend a little “barnyard” element. I don’t know how much rye is in their “rye recipe” but it smells higher than mashbill #1 that’s for sure. Healthy nose for a 94 proof’er. Palate is also surprisingly rich and deep with cherry, vanilla, over ripe peach, light caramel, and peppery rye spice in the mid-palate. Finish is pretty short featuring cinnamon gummy bears candy, and bitter oak which turns a little astringent after everything else fades. Some of the palate flavors bleed into the beginning of the finish, making it a slow morph rather than a sharp turn. Mouthfeel is slick and oily. A solid and enjoyable offering from BT and if you like their profile (as most do) you should enjoy as this doesn’t stray far from the path. As flavor profiles go, this one is probably closest to EHT Small Batch which makes me a fan. At the slightly over retail that I paid ($43) it’s a rebuy on sight. But I’ve seen it going to $70-$100 as well, and please don’t pay that. It’s solid and tasty but it’s not reinventing the wheel here. Scores an extra .25 rating points for affordability at retail.
Buffalo Trace Kosher Rye Recipe Straight Bourbon (2021 Release)
About this bottle
The certified Kosher whiskey was made with the guidance of the Chicago Rabbinical Council. In 2012, new American oak Kosher barrels were sold to a non-Jewish Buffalo Trace executive which were filled with a rye recipe bourbon mash bill. In April 2021 the bottling lines were flushed to ensure non-Kosher spirit would not be in contact with the matured rye. This allocated release will be sold before Passover 2022 begins with a new release to follow after the Jewish holiday.

Color: Tawny / Chestnut Nose: Baking Spice | Bananas | Caramel Very pleasant nose that is inviting. The baking spices surprised me and are very apparent from the get go. Palate: Light mouth feel. Little to no heat. The baking spices from the nose come through into the palate and are accompanied by lesser notes of oak, citrus, and strawberries. Finish: Heat builds as the palate lingers but pleasantly so. The baking spices continue and are met with more of a rye spice profile in the finish. Satisfyingly long with a touch of sweetness.
Very smooth and oily. Nose has a slight minty tone, sweet corn Sweet upfront with bubble gum candy, this fades to slight dill and pepper, subtle baking spices of nutmeg and all spice. Some chocolate notes in the finish with turns into pepper on the back pallet, great body to it. Long finish with a slight hint of oak. But not overly so. Perfect dram for a cool fall evening b
Zaskakujaco podobne. Obie dosc slodkie, nieco karmelowe z owocowoscia, geste, mocno alkoholowe jak na %. Wersja rye nieco bardziej zlozona z jakimis przyprawosciami i o dziwo slodsze nawet wrazenia. Moze ciut lepsza, ale ocenki analogiczne. Fanem nie jestem. Acz niezle
Definitely an improvement over the standard Buffalo Trace recipe, the flavors are not as spicier as much as they are just purer. Call it the power of suggestion but the kosher recipe tastes like honey right off the farm. The value is off the charts too at msrp..
Typical rye flavors. Doesn’t stand out as very unique. It’s a decent pour for MSRP if you can find it. Personally I regret purchasing mine at $80
