On the nose it’s BT distillery all the way with loads of fresh ripe fruits (berries, apple, cherry, and tangerine) with vanilla cream underneath. Not the most complex nose, but it is inviting. Palate is very reminiscent of the Weller line; all soft fruits and vanillas. Less oak or earthiness than in some other products such as the EHT line or Eagle Rare. No spice or oak to speak of. Like the nose it’s simplistic, but tasty. Finish doesn’t develop much with just a hint of oak coming out. Does have a lovely caramel flan lingering note after everything else fades. Where you might expect to get some spice, none ever materializes and it remains smooth as silk. Really addicting, but it comes and goes in a flash. Mouthfeel is velvety, and suits the profile perfectly. Drying effect makes you want to take another sip. It’s not hard to see why people love many BT whiskeys, especially the wheated ones as they are tasty and unchallenging, and this one fits squarely in that wheelhouse. Great substitute for the impossible to find Wellers, although I found the rye recipe slightly more interesting. At $40 retail this is a no brainer buy. I admittedly overpaid a semi-secondary price of $70 just to get my hands on it, and I can’t see myself paying that price again; just a little too simple for top dollar. That said, my rating is reflective of retail pricing.
Buffalo Trace Kosher Wheat Recipe Straight Bourbon (2021 Release)
About this bottle
The certified Kosher whiskey was made with the guidance of the Chicago Rabbinical Council. In 2012, new American oak Kosher barrels were sold to a non-Jewish Buffalo Trace executive which were filled with a wheat recipe bourbon. In April 2021, the bottling lines were flushed to ensure non-Kosher spirit would not be in contact with the matured bourbon. This allocated release will be sold before Passover 2022 begins with a new release to follow after the Jewish holiday.

Nose - Oak, cherry, cooked brown sugar. Slight creme brûlée with the toasted sugar and vanilla. Slight plum smell but not overly fruity. Palate - Cinnamon. A lot of heat. Barrel heat. More oak and vanilla. Creme brûlée. Super velvety on the mouthfeel, making it feel and taste like a very creamy ice cream. Finish - Very sweet oak, but soooo pleasant. More of that creamy palate on the finish with the continued creamy vanilla ice cream.
Zaskakujaco podobne. Obie dosc slodkie, nieco karmelowe z owocowoscia, geste, mocno alkoholowe jak na %. Wersja rye nieco bardziej zlozona z jakimis przyprawosciami i o dziwo slodsze nawet wrazenia. Moze ciut lepsza, ale ocenki analogiczne. Fanem nie jestem. Acz niezle
Oak, apple, wheat, caramel, cherry, vanilla, crème brûlée and graham cracker nose. Sweet and smooth, a little spicy and peppery with vanilla, apple, pear, crème brûlée and cinnamon on the palate. Very nice. @twostal
Thought it would be similar to Weller SR but to me they were quite different. This was less sweet and more spice/apple. With ice it smoothed out and got a little sweeter but wouldn’t put it up with the SR.
Compared this next to Weller SR expecting them to be similar, which they are, but Special Reserve took the slight edge for having the better nose; however, Kosher Whet has a longer finish.
