Calumet Farm Small Batch Bourbon (Discontinued)

Pours a honey-orange color, with short icicles of lacing around the sides. It looks sticky like honey pouring out the top of a cartoon honey pot. The aroma is very grainy, with what seems like a corn husk included in the batch. Vegetal corn/broccoli scent; sulfuric and a little gassy in the nose. There is something slightly off about it: it's a little gasoline/fusel laden, which is unexpected at only 86°. It's straight up coal, although there's no burn. The taste is orange cough syrup: not necessarily unpleasant but very medicinal. Some peppery barrel char. Spicy clove. The finish leaves a syrupy lacquer on the palate. Black licorice, some cinnamon spice. There is a minty coolness that pervades the tail end. It's still gaseous at the end, emitting a kind of gasoline-like coda. This is a highly drinkable whiskey, but it's just slightly off-putting and harsh.

First time trying and enjoying neat. Nose - honey, ethanol, oak, leather, and some vanilla. Taste - starts immediately very sweet with honey to the tongue and a sweet transition into vanilla. Gets complex with some oak, Smokey notes and very light pepper. The finish rounds out bringing some sweet notes back to the palate in a rather short finish with oak and more very light pepper. Overall - really enjoyed this pour. It’s sweet, Smokey and floral would be my best description. The nose is great and the taste is great. Style points for the cool bottle design.

Cherry on the nose with a good amount of oak present. Second wave brings butterscotch. Flavor has notes of coffee, pepper, some mint and clove. Later some cocoa in the nose. Couple drops of water later brought out more fruit notes in the flavor. And then a touch of almond.

Rapid City trip. Very mellow on the nose. Fruity smell, but very very light. This theme is repeated across the pallet. It’s well balanced, very light. Flavors are all fruit. Surprising warmth after the finish.

Aroma: Full aroma of Vanilla and Caramel with toffee and brown sugar. Taste: Lots of depth Caramel vanilla smooth but ends quickly. Low proof but great mouth feel.

Of the five tasted tonight, probably my second favorite. A little spicier than the others, except Noah’s Mill, and a softer, rounder profile. Good stuff, friendly.
