Comte Louis de Lauriston VSOP Calvados Domfrontais is a very good, rich, Brandy from Calvados, France aged for more than 5 years in oak casks. It has an aromatic birth with notes of red apple, oak tannins, tobacco, rancio, polished cherry wood & chervil; while a rich life adds notes of toffee apple, pear tarte, vanilla, fig & cherry; that leads to a balanced death of medium length with notes of cinnamon, vanilla, hay & herbs. First tasting of the evening. 3/10 bottle. The nose tickles. It smells like moonshine. Severely burns mouth and tip of tongue. Very tart, bitter wild unripe pears. Light sweet pretaste. Light smack of radish and sour wood. Rough and poorly balanced. But it is intense.
