About this bottle

Sazerac’s Caribou Crossing was designed to reinvent the Canadian whisky category. This 80 proof whisky — the first single-barrel Canadian whisky since the 19th century — is aged in oak barrels and was selected from over 200,000 barrels by Master Blender Drew Mayville. This Canadian whisky is bottled twice a year (in the spring and fall) at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Kentucky.

Caribou Crossing 40% abv, no age listed, minimum is 3 years. Single barrel Canadian whisky bottled in Kentucky (Sazerac). Aroma: a general sweetness, nuttiness, very pleasant Taste: nice rye spice in the middle that lingers, barrel notes in the back end, cinnamon, nutmeg. Medium mouthfeel. Sadly over time it did not improve and astringency appeared, and the whisky became less complex. Overall it is an enjoyable and decent whisky. Cost: 99.95 plus tax for a 750 ml, overpriced in my opinion, these use to be around 60 to 70 bucks from my research. Grade: B-/B

Nose: Not particularly complex. A little bit of vanilla. There is a little bit of rye spice but but doesn't come that strong because of the low proof. Taste: I get a bit of toffee and christmas spices. A bit more burn than the nose and low proof would suggest. It has a lingering that is better than you would anticipate. Overall taste is better than nose. An easy-sipper. Won't win any awards. Definitely overlriced. Lot 40 is half the price and a far better canadian whisky

This is tough to find around greater Kansas City. It shouldn’t be that tough. But then again- based on distribution and hype it happens. This is an 80 proofer that drinks closer to 100. I can see if the reviews vary- it is a single barrel statement. This one was a definite-I’d buy another. Rich, butterscotch, a bit of spice on the end. Smooth due to proof, but flavor abounds on this one.

Toffee off the bat, some mild oak, leather, some mild fruitness maybe strawberry. then some hay, mild baking spice and a rum-esque note near the finish. The finish has spice but nothing overwhelming, but the finish lasts and lingers gentle for a good while. Probably one of the best canadian whiskeys ive had, and what a great price for a single barrel!

It is ok no much going on has the typical sugar flavors I would expect from a Canadian whiskey. Maybe I would like it more at a higher proof. Just kind of a let down, been trying to pick it up for years always seemed to just miss it. I started on Canadian but for the same money and a better sugar profile in my opinion pickup Flor de Cana 18.

*** CHECKERS MASS PICK *** Nose - Smells musty, almost like the smell if the beach with a beach towel. A little of an unpleasant ethanol smell. Palate - Some light strawberry, light wood notes very average. All the smallest whiskey notes. Too light for me. Finish - Same as the palate, just not for me.
