2022 marked the first year Castle & Key Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky released its first bourbon since the team restored the Old Taylor Distillery in 2014. Using a mash bill of 73% white corn, 10% rye, 17% malted barley, the bourbon was aged for 4 years and was bottled at 50% ABV without chill-filtration. There are 60 barrels in this 5th batch. First smell and taste you get the bread dough. Then has a spicier rye finish that finishes. Single ice cube helped open it up but still needs a couple years to mature. Excited to try different batches.
For aged 4 years, it's ok (not as hot as it could be). Citrusy with a bit of that fills your mouth taste (is that the rye effect?). Cool bottle to have in the bourbon hutch.
