About this bottle

This family run estate has been around since 1870 and exclusively run by the Lesgourgues family since 1974. All production is handled here from the grape growing to barrel aging and every step in between including coopering their barrels. This Hors d'Âge is comprised primarily of the baco grape and is a blend of over 15 eaux de vies aged from 12-20 years in Gascon oak.

I actually had the Intemporel No. 5 which is supposedly made of brandies aged 20-30 years. Whatever. Nose evolves quite a lot, starts off with big toasty sugar flavors almost reminiscent of a full bodied rum. Then goes into baked pears and more bright apple candy flavors. Taste took me be surprise, was not nearly as sweet as I expected it to be. A touch dry with all the wood tannins, reminiscent of some sweet tobacco leaf with an apple-y and grape candy backing. It feels more like an aged calvados than a grape-based brandy. Pretty great.

An elegant Hors D'Âge Bas Armagnac from Chateau de Laubade has been influenced rather heavily by the Baco grapes in the blend, along with the Ugni Blanc, Colombard & the Folle Blanche varieties. It has an aromatic birth with notes of candied fruits, spice, prune & rancio; while a rich & complex life led to a long & balanced death. August 2017

Really enjoyed this one. Maybe something different to have around for this bourbon drinker. A nice after dinner drink that is very smooth, even for a brandy

Only had a couple of cognacs. Now time to try an Armangnac. Magnificent!! Fruity, floral, spicy, good touch of oak.
