About this bottle

Royal Salute 21 Year is an homage by Chivas Regal to the newly crowned Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. At 21 years, it is also the youngest in the Royal Salute line-up. Why 21 years old you might ask? 21 is an important designation as it refers to the 21-gun-salute, for generations a form of honor and respect to sovereigns and dignitaries. Be aware that there are 3 different colors for the ceramic decanters (sapphire, ruby, and emerald), but the spirit is the same.

MARKBRANDO 4.3

Royal Salute 21 years old is the entry-level whiskey of the namesake brand. The only brand of blended whiskeys whose cheapest example has a minimum maturation of 21 years. The Royal Salute was created on June 2, 1953 in honor of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Its name refers to the 21-cannon salute, performed as a military honor during events involving the royal family. Out of curiosity, other salutes with a smaller number of cannons are performed for military officers or members of the government. Royal Salute comes in bottles of three different colors: red, green and blue. Each represents a jewel in the British crown: ruby, emerald and sapphire, respectively. But you don't need to be a gem expert to know that. Each bottle comes with the name of its honored stone on the packaging. Except for the color of the bottle and the velvet bag that surrounds it, there is no difference in its contents – the blend is the same for the three colors. And before anyone gets smart and asks me, the brown bottle is from an old, discontinued version. And speaking of the blend, the Royal Salute 21 years old uses single malts from renowned distilleries. As a high-end luxury brand linked to the giant Pernod Ricard, Royal Salute has at its disposal some of the best barrels from some of the most renowned distilleries in Scotland, such as Strathisla. As it is a blended whiskey with a defined age of twenty-one years, all of its whiskies, whether single malts or grain whiskies, must be matured for at least the age stamped on their label so that they can be part of the blend. of Royal Salute 21. The average price of Royal Salute 21 years is USD 150. It's not cheap at all, especially for a blended whiskey. Obviously, part of this price is due to the presentation of the whiskey, including a beautiful porcelain bottle, produced by the British company Wade, as well as the velvet letterhead bag in which the bottle is packaged. But the liquid inside bottle is very rich too. Royal Salute 21 was created aiming for harmony, softness and balance. But unlike the festivities, the whiskey was successful. So, don't expect to find strong flavors or a clear predominance of any specific aroma. Royal Salute 21 years seeks universality. In other words, this is a blend designed to be palatable and enjoyable for everyone, even those who are not used to drinking whiskey. And don't worry too much if you've already bought everyone's Christmas presents. Buy a 21 year old Royal Salute anyway. Pay for your proactivity. Treat yourself. ROYAL SALUTE 21 YEARS OLD Type: Blended Whiskey with defined age – 21 years Brand: Royal Salute Region: N/A ABV: 40% Test results: Aroma: Floral and fruity. There is no trace of smoking. Taste: Sweet, honey, dried and fresh fruits. Very little spicy. If there is smoke in any of the malts that make it up, it is imperceptible in the final product. With Water: Adding water reduces the peppery flavor (which is already discreet) as well as the other flavors of the whiskey. This Dog's advice is to take it pure. Price: around USD 150 SOURCE: Cão Engarrafado (Brazil).

Nose - sweet apple, light honey notes Taste - light taste but not much to note, very smooth, it's almost like the tastes have been muted by the blending Finish - comes in two waves, first on the palate then fills the nostrils, smooth and little to no burn Score - 3.5, tasted next to Glenmorangie Signet, this may have decreased the score but honestly it wasn't anything special, nose is the star on this one, the taste and finish were lackluster Scoring Legend 5.0 - Outstanding, unmatched to others 4.5 - Excellent, I will always keep a bottle in stock if possible 4.0 - Very good, quite enjoyable to drink, can consider as a solid choice 3.5 - Good, would taste again 3.0 - Average 2.5 - Acceptable, still drinkable 2.0 - Inferior, able to drink but not enjoyable 1.5 and below—wouldn’t drink again unless I am desperate

Best whisky ever. Even better, way better than the Johnnie Walker XR. On the nose you'll get a lot of vanilla, with a little smoke, cotton, a little chocolate or coffee perhaps. Very sweet on the nose. On the palate starts sweet with a complex flavor where you can taste some caramel and maybe apple, to quickly transform into a very spicy but complex flavor. Never before i have had a whisky that can be spicy and sweet at the same moment, not one after another, but in the same moment. The finish is long and satisfying, with a fresh ending with the spicyness still present in the back. Beautiful whisky, so far my number 1 ever. i have never given a 100% on a scotch before. this Whisky deserves it.

Style - Neat in a Lowball Nose - Apple sweetness, almost brandyish. Taste - Very light smoke. Somewhat muted flavor but still very smooth. Finish - No tingle in the tongue but the chest stays warm. Score - 3.75 Scoring Legend 5.0 - Near perfect, there is something truly special about this whisky. 4.5 - Amazing, will always try to keep a bottle of this in my collection (if feasible). 4.0 - Very Good, maybe only one minor nitpick about the whisky keeping it here. 3.5 - Good, quite enjoyable to drink. 3.0 - Solid, wouldn't go out of my way to get it. 2.5 - Meh, still drinkable. Under 2.5 - If you have a bottle of this, start cooking with it instead.

It’s a very friendly and approachable drink for even non scotch lovers. I would say that it’s not unique but very rich, buttery, smooth, and leaves a very subtle after taste. For its price I may want to get something more unique. But still it’s one of my favorite.
