If I didn’t know this was a rye, I probably would never guess it’s a rye. Nose is an initial wave of grassiness, but behind that, a fruity nose that belies its rye mash bill and just a hint of mintiness. Unfortunately the palate is rather uninteresting compared to their bourbon. At 80 proof there’s not a ton to latch on to. On the finish, the fruit blossoms first, then a burst of minty spice - the first time this really says “I’m a rye”, and then it’s gone with a somewhat drying note.
About this bottle
Two brothers Ryan and Garrett Burchett run the Mississippi River Distilling Co. Their whiskey is named after the famed Buffalo Bill Cody who was a fan of the ever-so- popular-for-the-times rye and as such, the brothers decided to age a 100% rye whiskey. With grain purchased solely from Dave and Jim Wherry in Fulton, IL Cody Road Rye takes a remarked leap in the opposite direction to most rye lovers, being a touch fruitier and floral than most of its competitors including Templeton.

It's fruitier than you might expect from a Rye, but it has spice up front and a floral finish. It reminds me of Japanese Whiskeys with higher wheat in the Nashville. It does make a fine old fashioned.
Light color and flavor. Floral and grain nose. Thin, sweet grain, then slightly antiseptic up front. Some rye spice comes on in the finish. Short finish. Could definitely improve with more age in oak.
Batch 1702. Bottle 19. Still like this one and finished the bottle making whiskey meatballs from the distillers own cookbook. Tasty!
To me a very pleasant rye. Very clean and gentle but the typical rye spice attack appears at the very end of the finish. Good stuff!
Another bottle down making homemade rye bbq for little smokies and beef short ribs for super bowl. Batch 6 and bottle 58.
