This was a good find. Glen Grant 10 was discontinued a few years back, along with the 16. They were replaced with a new lineup, from which I have reviewed the 15 year and found it to be significantly better than the 16. So far, my information is limited, but I’m going to have the old lineup another chance with this here. Nose: Vanilla, honey, and orange citrus. Toffee and almond biscotti. Gala apple, pear, and a little apricot. Some golden raisin. A bit of mint in the background. White pepper, clove, nutmeg, and faint oakiness. Notice I used a slight of words that suggest that this is subtle. That’s because it is. But what I can grasp is solid. Palate: Gala apple, pear, grape(white and red,) apricot, and raisin pop at the forefront. Orange and lemon citrus. Vanilla, toffee, and honey. A little bit of what I’d call soapiness (not in any way a negative, just a note I find here and there.) Vanilla frosting. Light cashew and almond. Not a hint of spice, outside of some faint oak. Not quite as inspiring as the nose, but still pleasant. Finish: Vanilla and toffee. Honey and sugar cookie. Caramel. Apple, pear, grape, apricot, and raisin. Melon and some tangy plum. Black pepper, clove, nutmeg, and oak. Short-medium length. Good whisky. I tasted this while watching the second to last episode of The Wire. No spoilers because I may not finish the show by the time you’re reading this. Anyhow, the events of this episode were definitely the most interesting part of writing this review. Like I said, the whisky is good enough. Really enjoyable. But I’d wager a guess that I wouldn’t have plowed through a whole episode whilst writing a review of the 15 year GG. In summation, the old Glen Grant lineup was fine. But after having the 15, I’m okay with letting this 10 and the 16 go in favor of the 12 and 18. As for this one, I liked it. Glad I bought it, and happy to be partaking in the enjoyment of something that is technically dated, much like the show I am about to finish. 3/5.
About this bottle
Some may be surprised to know that Glen Grant is one of the top producing distilleries in all of Scotland. About half of their production is sent to Chivas Regal for blending, but its popularity is slowly rising here in the states. Their tall pot stills do indeed lead to a light whisky. Keep an eye out for older independent bottlings as they have a tendency to age gracefully.

Honey-lemon tea on the nose. The body is possibly the lightest scotch I've ever had. The palate starts off with cereal grains forward, then with honey sweetness as a finish, mingling with oak spice. The honey character does take a second or third sip to discern, but there's nothing here that's offensive. As a component of the Chivas Regal blend, I gather this is used to smooth it out. Still, very drinkable but making very little ripple in the pond. My Rating Glossary: Two Stars: "I'd rather be drinking lite beer." Two 1/2 Stars: "Posh rubbish." Three Stars: "I love whisk(e)y. This is average love." Three 1/2 Stars: "May buy again." Four Stars: "I've got to get you into my life." Four 1/2 Stars: "Better than drugs." Five Stars: "Life is good. Whisky makes it better."

GLEN GRANT 10 (2016) Bottling Code: LR0/FL06 Bottle opened: 3 weeks Final Review date: 18-5-20 N: A nice mix of Floral and Fruity (Apple, Pear) notes. Orange and Lemon Zest (Lemon pastry of Upper-Wagon), Vanilla Cream, and a bit of Cinnamon Spice. (8/10) P: Light texture and weak on the palate. Too weak to really deliver the flavors of the nose. Only Vanilla and Honey. (5/10) F: Short with some Bitterness. (4/10) A very subtle dram, good for a hot day to enjoy. [Pastry-Wagon: Defunct bakery store in Ahmedabad, India.]
Nose - honey, pear, apple, oat, cereal grain, white wine, lemon, toffee, creamy vanilla, grass, mild vegetal funk, moderate ethanol burn. Taste - pear, honey, apple, toffee, creamy vanilla, lemon, grass, cereal grain, moderate alcohol bite, finishing fairly long with lingering toffee, grainy (almost chalky), and fruity flavors. I haven’t tasted many Speysides, but I enjoy this one. It has more of a bite than some of the others I’ve tasted, probably due to only being aged 10 years.
For the price, I come back to this bottle every-now-and-then. Both the nose and taste have a curious "maltyness" or "yeastyness" to them that's hard to explain but not exactly something you look forward to. To give it it's deserving chops, if you really look for it there's young dried pear or apricot there.
