About this bottle

Glenfiddich, Gaelic for Valley of the Deer, is a family-owned distillery, and despite their 10 million liters produced annually they warehouse all whisky on site. Additionally, they have both their own cooperage and bottling plant for their distinctive three cornered bottles. The 12 Year expression part of the brand's flagship collection. Both ex-bourbon and sherry casks are used in its maturation. Note: The brand updated the name to Glenfiddich 12 Year Our Original Twelve.

⚠️ [NOTE 1: Price reflects one 750-mL bottle ordered via DoorDash (excluding all taxes, shipping/delivery, fees, gratuity/tips, discount codes, etc.).] ⚠️ [NOTE 2: Tasting notes below reflect approximately 2.0 oz consumed neat at room temperature in a Glencairn glass from a newly purchased bottle, over the course of approximately 30 minutes from start to finish. Two drops of bottled water were added roughly halfway through.] 👁 OPTICS | Copper-tinged goldenrod in color. Very clear. Relatively light/thin and watery. 👃 OLFACTION | Dominated by instant scents of Oloroso sherry and red wine, with a general dessert-like sweetness. Moderate ethanol fumes/burn upon deep inhalation and closer inspection. Freshly-cut green apple and pear notes layered beneath. Occasional pleasant hints of honey and toffee. No percepible change post-water droplets. 👅 PALATE | Refreshing and reinvigorating burst of a bouquet of springtime/meadow flowers, in harmony with various green orchard fruits. Heavy salt and generic baking spices, with mild black pepper notes. Oloroso sherry and vinous flavors only reappeared (from their olfactory debut) after adding water drops, becoming increasingly noticeable towards the end. 👄 MOUTHFEEL | Exceptionally light, thin (almost airy), watery, and smooth. Considerable—almost uncomfortable—saltiness, dryness, and spiced warmth, which became notably less intense after introduction of water droplets. 🏁 FINISH | Blatant dryness, saltiness, and overall "spicy warmth" (in a baking spice and ethanol sense), lingering strongly for 10+ minutes and unfortunately masking subtle remnants of fruits and flowers.

Review #19 - Whisk(e)y #13 Nose - sweet, with fruity notes, vanilla, light, malty, fresh apples and pears. The smell is classic, very pleasant, smells how a real whisky should. Palate - sweet with vanilla, maybe some honey. It is spicy, with a touch of maltiness, richer than expected, oaky, quite oily. There is quite a bit of alcohol burn and it has a slightly effervescent feel. The spiciness is noticeable on the lower palate, and the maltiness mostly on the upper palate in the back. The fruitiness has specific aromas of apples, maybe pears and some peaches as well. Finish - short- medium, towards medium length, quite dry, with a leathery feel, it also feels quite acidic in the stomach which does not give it a very pleasant feel, but it goes away rather quick. Adding a few drops of cold water does not seem to have much effect on the flavour profile. After trying it out some time after, and leaving the whisky sit in the glass for a while, the whisky profile changed dramatically for the better. It turned out much maltier and smoother. I love the maltiness in these whiskies, although in this case it is not as noticeable as in the Glenmorangie Triple Cask for example, where it is much more pronounced. Vite ! Tournée générale !

NEAT NOSE - Pear, Faint Green Apple, and Caramel PALATE - Pear and A little bit of caramel are the most obvious notes that come through on the palate. FINISH - Short BUY? - Nice introduction to scotch to see if it’s something you’d enjoy. BUY AGAIN? - Likely not. Good for the price, but I’ll probably be buying another one of their expressions before I buy this one again since I don’t drink much Scotch.

I've never been a big fan of glenfiddich. What I will say though is that the oakiness here was very nice. I found this improved significantly with a couple of whiskey cubes to cool it slightly, but even then, there's just something about it that doesn't quite work for me. Enjoyable tasting, probably wouldn't buy though.

It's a little harsh throughout the taste and the finish. It has your typical single malt scotch grassy note in the middle with kind of an empty front end and a little bit of a sour back end. Overall, just a pretty harsh scotch but pretty representative of the style.
