About this bottle

You may not have heard of Cardhu, but you've probably tasted it. It's a prime component of nearly all Johnnie Walker blended whisky. Europe, particularly Spain, had quite a taste for the single malt bottling. It was so popular in fact that they changed it to a blended malt to keep up with demand. This did not go over so well and Cardhu righted that wrong back in 2005.

Cardhu 12-year-old Scotch whisky is a delightful and approachable option, especially for newcomers to the world of single malts. The aroma is gentle and welcoming, with hints of honey, vanilla, and a touch of fruitiness. While it may lack the complexity of older expressions, it still manages to charm with its sweetness. On the palate, Cardhu 12-year-old is smooth and easy to drink. The flavors of caramel, toffee, and subtle spices blend harmoniously, providing a pleasant taste experience. However, for seasoned whisky connoisseurs, the taste might feel a bit too tame and straightforward, lacking the depth and intricacy found in more mature single malts. The finish is medium-length and satisfying, leaving a warm and lingering sweetness on the palate. While it doesn't possess the complexity of some other 12-year-old single malts, its easy-drinking nature makes it an excellent option for relaxed and casual occasions. Overall, Cardhu 12-year-old is a solid entry-level single malt, suitable for those exploring the world of Scotch whisky. However, for those seeking a more complex and robust flavor profile, it might not fully satisfy their discerning palates.

Owing to its low ABV, I've never given this malt much thought, but ended up with a bottle by way of a whiskey pull at a benefit event. I get a candlewax vibe from the nose. It's slightly floral, honey, citrus. I get something possibly peat adjacent, somewhat reminiscent of Clynelish. This carries into the palate, but again very faint. The palate is mostly honey pear citrus musty wood, drying finish. Slight saltiness. Waft of smoke. Nice mouthfeel, particularly for the 40% ABV. This is better than I expected, although I don't know that it's a stellar value.

Nose: Honey, bartlett pear, mild lemon, vanilla, and a some bready notes (good white bread). Taste: Lots of honey, some of the citrus, and vanilla. If I didn't know better I honestly would think I was drinking Johnnie Walker Black Label. Crazy resemblance. After reviewing this product, I came back to my review as I found out that Cardhu supplies Johnnie Walker with alot of its whiskey.....lol....nailed it. Overall: Nose: 3/5 Taste: 3.5/5 Overall: 3.25/5 Repurchase: No (It's good, but not for the asking price) Type: Special Occasion

Nose: lemon tea or lemon on the vine with a touch of honey. Palate: Lemon with a bit of sugar ( if you’ve ever had sugar and lemon comparable to that, only lighter) burnt cereal or strong black tea. Finish: very very short, light fruity sweetness. I didn’t find the whiskey to be good value, it’s very light, the flavours (for me) do not go together well, toffee flavours to contrast the lemon would’ve been a better fit, but if you’re a fan of lemon ice tea this whiskey may be for you. Splash of water is a must

Noze: Floral and kind of cereal . Palate: light texture, floral with a apple touch ? Finish: strong at first and ot goes down, a little tanin in the end. A good whisky for the news ones, easy to apprehend àd the most important one, easy to drink !

Nose: decent sweetness, richness. Streaks of smoke, apple, pears. Palate: Smooth, gentle sweetness, soft peat. A little smoke and sweet nothings, similar to a fancy tequila Finish: Long, light with a touch of peat.
