Well, not sure what else you could ask for out of a summer drinking bourbon. Deep Auburn color. Really hangs on the glass. Nose reveals a wonderful balance between the spicy rye notes and the barrel. Chocolate, caramel and vanilla all come through the nutmeg and clove. Mustiness from the rye hiding in there too. Spicy front, with plenty of heat gives way quickly to a vanilla frosted sugar cookie. Finishes with more spice, a hint of eucalyptus/mint, burnt caramel and cloves. This is the most wonderfully balanced bourbon I can remember consuming. It's like Thanksgiving dinner with Christmas cookies as the middle course. I am lucky and grateful to have gotten a bottle, and can confirm that if you're a bourbon lover, do not sell it.
About this bottle
Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. 18 Year Marriage is a one-time limited edition release from Buffalo Trace. This bourbon gets its name from the marriage of three bourbon mash bills used in its creation: one wheated bourbon mash bill, and two rye bourbon mash bills. They were filled into barrels in 2002 and after aging for 18 years they were blended and allowed to marry before bottling. This is a bottled in bond release bottled at 100 proof which is required. Limited availability as of June 2020.

The nose starts oft subtle, which gentle notes of oak and ripe fruit. Straw, honey and floral rye spice come out quite quickly. It soon mellows out to come off shockingly smooth. The palate is smooth with a touch of dryness all while being chewy. Oak, floral rye and ripe fruit are the dominant notes, while there is a distinct smoothness in the background. It is almost dessert like, making this incredibly easy to sip on. The finish is long and chewy, with such smoothness and a bit of spice keeping the mouth a bit spicy. Although for its age, the flavor could be a bit more full bodied.
Nose - Very grapey. Lots of leather, musk, dark berries, and oak. Perfect scent but thats all it is. Some deep, dark caramel as well. Quite rich. Palate - Lots of complexity. Oak, leather, kittle bit of pepper. Little sparks of vanilla and dark dried fruits. Very balanced Finish - This finish is strong, complex and long. Cinnamon, smoke and oak is the game and EHT is to blame…..in a good way. Not harsh, perfectly balanced.
Nose is floral, maybe some cotton candy or something. Not as much oak as I was expecting in nose or taste. Just a blast of flavor from the front to back or your mouth. Char, rye spice, burnt caramel. Lots of lacing.
I'll keep it simple, the nose is unlike anything I've ever had before, palate is similar to a good eht sib. Worth secondary at 4k+? Absolutely not, nothing is. Is it worth trying at a bar? Absolutely
Fantastic. One of the best I’ve had. Minty, sweet, delicious, with a medium to long finish had a little spice to it, building heat.
