About this bottle

Available beginning April 2018, this is the second release of E.H. Taylor Four Grain Bourbon following the inaugural release in spring 2017. Like that release, this will be difficult to find. This four grain bourbon is made from a mash bill of corn, rye, wheat, and malted barley. These grains were chosen as these four grains were what Taylor would have had access to in the late 1800's when he established the O.F.C. Distillery, now known as Buffalo Trace. The bourbon is aged for 13 years and is bottled in bond at 100 proof.

I was at a bar and saw this available for a pour. To my surprise, it was only $15 a pour so I had to try it. The nose was so sweet. It was like a fruit and vanilla bomb. However, it was so delightful and wasn’t overpowering. The palate continued the vanilla, cherry and fruit flavor. The heat intensity was perfect as it warmed your mouth. By far an incredible taste. The finish was where it capped it off so well for me. It was smooth with an intense mouth feel but vanilla and sweetness throughout. Was absolutely delicious. Because this is so hard to find, I doubt I’ll ever get it again. Absolutely worth it.

Its best qualities are up front. Sweet nose, vanilla, dark fruit (grapes, plum?), and Bubblicious gum. The palate continues largely in the same sweet vein, with a bit of cherry cola added to the mix. The finish veers off in a completely different direction. Dry oak, spice. It’s an interesting sip. Quite good, even though I don’t love the note it exits on. And I know this is the 2018 bottling but if it’s similar to 2017, I don’t see a path to whiskey of the year.

Nose: berries, berries, oh and more berries. Not as distinct as pappy but very good. Maybe a bit of vanilla cake in there Palate: holy cow. A thick berry bomb rushes over immediately. I was very shocked. It’s then swallowed by the vanilla that was on the nose. Two distinct flavors make this bourbon extremely unique and so very good. Finish: the vanilla sits on the palate all the way through the end. I love this.

Two ounces poured neat in Glencairn at The Partisan in DC. Vanilla, spice, grains, hay, cherries. Lasting complex finish, lingering spice with touch of heat. Beautiful. At $14 a pour in an upscale DC establishment, this was a true steal. Love this. 7/3/19

Cherry Vanilla Caramel with a spicy and long finish. Not worth secondary/online prices currently but at retail this is a great buy and there is a reason it is highly sought after.

Nose strong of vanilla, sweet corn, flavor of pecans, vanilla (strong), caramel, pepper spice, cotton candy, marshmallow, followed by slight herbal finish.
